    "description": "<p>Peter van Pels was registered with the <em>Synagogen-Gemeinde Osnabr&uuml;ck</em> together with his parents. On <strong>26 June 1937</strong>, all three of them were deregistered there in the context of their departure to Amsterdam.<sup data-footnote-id=\"6jnmn\"><a href=\"#footnote-1\" id=\"footnote-marker-1-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[1]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Peter attended the <em>Israelitische Elementairschule</em> in Osnabr&uuml;ck, attached to the <em>Synagoge-Gemeinde</em> of Osnabr&uuml;ck. There he was taught by Abraham Trepp who, in addition to being a teacher, also held the position of preacher, cantor and teacher of religion in the synagogue.<sup data-footnote-id=\"1s6j9\"><a href=\"#footnote-2\" id=\"footnote-marker-2-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[2]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>During his time at school, students were regularly scolded and besieged by members of the Hitler Youth.<sup data-footnote-id=\"54yj7\"><a href=\"#footnote-3\" id=\"footnote-marker-3-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[3]</a></sup>;<sup data-footnote-id=\"x7urx\"><a href=\"#footnote-4\" id=\"footnote-marker-4-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[4]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>On Peter van Pels&#39; archive card in the Amsterdam population register, the section on religion reads: NI (New Israelite).<sup data-footnote-id=\"lnrkl\"><a href=\"#footnote-5\" id=\"footnote-marker-5-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[5]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>According to Hilde Goldberg-Jacobsthal, Peter van Pels took Jewish lessons in Rabbi Mehler&#39;s class at the Liberal Jewish Congregation.
