Hermann van Pels and Max Goldschmidt establish Moderna
Handelsonderneming Moderna was founded on 4 January 1938 by Hermann van Pels and his brother-in-law Max Goldschmidt.
Handelsonderneming Moderna was founded on 4 January 1938 by Hermann van Pels and his brother-in-law Max Goldschmidt. The firm engaged in manufacturing and trading textile and knitted goods. The company was located at the address Argonautenstraat 4 in Amsterdam, in Goldschmidt's home.
Transactions exceeding the amount of two hundred and fifty guilders required the consent of both partners.
On 24 April 1939, Van Pels stepped down from the firm. Goldschmidt took over all assets and liabilities and continued the business alone. On 14 May 1943, Moderna was dissolved by the Omnia Treuhandgesellschaft m.b.H. In August 1945, Goldschmidt re-established Moderna. He sold the business again after a short time because he left for the United States in early 1947.[1]
