The Joodsche Invalide was an nursing home for elderly and disabled Jews, that was founded in 1911. In 1938, the institution moved into a new building on Weesperplein. On 1 March 1943, all residents were deported.[2]

Anne writes in her diary that subtenant Werner Goldschmidt worked at the Joodsche Invalide.[3] He was a stoker there, as is evident from the book by his sister-in-law Ellen Schwarzschild.[4]

When editing Het Achterhuis, Otto Frank added to Anne's text that he had visited elderly people in the Joodsche Invalide on 5 July 1942 (the day of the call-up).
