Leidsche Onderwijsinstellingen (LOI)
While in hiding, Margot Frank took a written course in Latin with Leidsche Onderwijsinstellingen.
Leidsche Onderwijsinstellingen (LOI), N.V., Maatschappij ter bevordering der. Located at Rijnsburgweg 169-175, Leiden.[1]
LOI was an institute for written education. It was a collaboration between three institutions in Leiden, including the 'Nederlandsche College voor Algemeene Studieleiding'. [2] This college provided the Latin course Margot took during the period in hiding.[3]
On 2 November 1943, LOI sent Margot confirmation of her enrolment in the 'Elementary Latin' course.[4] She took the course under the name 'Elly Voskuijl'. After the arrest, Bep Voskuijl wrote to LOI that she could not continue participating in the course and wanted to be deregistered. LOI then suggested suspending the lessons and resuming them at a later date. In June '45, Bep informed LOI of the actual situation. [5]
