Doe Mee
Doe Mee was a popular comic read by Anne and Margot Frank.
It was published from 7 May 1936 until the end of December 1942. The comic was a publication of the Algemeen Handelsblad. It offered Dutch youth American comic strips such as the Katzenjammer Kids, Popeye and Flash Gordon. Dutch illustrators also contributed, including Marten Toonder, Pax Steen and Joop Geesink.[1]
There is a photo showing Anne Frank on the sunbathing lawn of the Amstel Park swimming pool reading the 29 July 1938 issue.[2] The 22 December 1939 issue also listed Margot Frank of Amsterdam among the winners of consolation prizes for the Sint Nicolaas puzzle.[3]
During the war years, problems arose over the mostly American-origin pictorial stories in the magazine. Eventually, the publisher stopped the publication by the end of 1942. A restart after liberation was unsuccessful.[1]
