Richard Holländer

Richard Holländer was a first cousin of Edith Frank-Holländer.

RichardHolländer was a son of Moses Max Holländer, a sibling of Abraham Holländer, Edith's father. Max Holländer was married to Mathilde Berg and had four children with her: Alfred, Irene, Ernst and Richard.[1]

When he was young, Richard was a member of Turnklub 1906 from Aachen, a sports club that was supported by Julius and Walter Holländer, Edith's brothers. In 1929, he and his team won first prize in the 800-meter relay at the athletics championships of the Jewish sports club Vintus.[2] It seems that he also took part in the Jeux de l’Enfance, organized during the Paris Summer Olympics of 1924.[3]

In the 1930s Richard Holländer emigrated to Peru and assisted his sister Irene and her children to seek refuge there too.[4] In Peru Richard traded in women's clothing. His last name there changed from Holländer via Hollaender to Hollander. During a Holiday on Ice tour of South America in 1958, Buddy Elias, a cousin of Otto Frank, visited Irene Holländer in Lima, as well as her brother Richard and his wife Käte Calm. Buddy was greatly impressed by the Holländer couple's home and household. In addition to a chauffeur, there were servants, a cook and maids running around, and there was a garden full of roses that was illuminated with different-coloured lights at night.[5]

Richard and Käte had a son, Miguel Max, born in 1947. In 1965 they emigrated to the United States.
