Cornelis Gies (1895)
Cornelis Gies was an older brother of Jan Gies.
Cornelis Gies was an older brother of Jan Gies and was born in the parental home at Rustenburgerstraat 116B, district F, then still part of the municipality of Nieuwer-Amstel.[1] As the eldest son he had to do military service. On 2 July 1914, the Military Council decided to assign him to the cyclists of the 7th Infantry Regiment. He himself would have preferred a position with the 'State pigeon post'.[2] At the inspection he was found to be 1826 mm in height.
On 31 March 1921 he married A.M. Strikkers, daughter of a bar owner, in Amsterdam.[3] In 1922 they had a daughter and in 1928 a son. His profession was driver.[4]
After many moves, he eventually lived at the same address in Rustenburgerstraat for a long time.[5] His wife died on 23 November 1952.[4]
