Joop Hofhuis was an acquaintance of the Frank family.
Joop Hofhuis was an acquaintance of the Frank family. Hofhuis worked as a shop assistant, wholesaler and salesman.[1] He was a brother-in-law of Frans van Angeren, who was married to his sister. From 18 May 1936 to 3 January 1938, he was a partner in Pomosin Sales Office in Utrecht.[2]
From 1 July 1939 to 30 December 1946, he and N.G. Spaargaren were directors of the Pomosin sales office (selling Pomosin and chemicals), at Turfmarkt 8, Leiden.[3] At this address was the Backer company, wholesaler and manufacturer of bakery ingredients and caramel. Joop Hofhuis became a supervisory director of this company in 1941.[4] Also in 1941, Hofhuis was a partner with Spaargaren in 'Synthova' and 'Synfirna' (Leiden), 'artificial whole egg product and thickener for ice cream and pasta.'[5]
Otto Frank gave his household silver to Hofhuis for safekeeping, and he went there on 27 August 1945 to collect it. He then spent the night at Hofhuis' place.[6]
