Gien Amende - Zaaiman

The Amende family was friends with Miep and Jan Gies.

Gien Zaaiman married Hendricus Amende on 28 July 1909 in Amsterdam.[1] She ran a boarding house on Amsteldijk and later on Rijnstraat; Jan Gies had lived there after getting an official separation from his first wife.[2] There is a photo of the kitchen of the guest house she ran at Amsteldijk 11. In the photo are Gien Amende, her daughter Jo Bunjes-Amende, an unknown woman and Thor, the sheepdog of the Amende family.[3] Thor is the only animal named in the diary who appears in a photo.[4] There is also a photo of Mr and Mrs Amende with their daughter and son-in-law.

The Frank family placed a quantity of goods in storage with the Amende family during the period in hiding.[5]

Source personal data.[1] Addresses: Amsteldijk 11 bovenhuis, Amsterdam; Rijnstraat 238 III (December 1938).[1]
