llse Ledermann - Citroen

Ilse Citroen was the mother of Sanne and Barbara Ledermann, friends of Anne and Margot Frank.

Ilse Citroen was the youngest daughter of a family with Dutch roots.[1] One of her brothers was painter Paul Citroen.[2] She married Franz Anton Ledermann on 16 October 1924 in Berlin.[1] Their two daughters - Barbara and Sanne - were born in 1925 and 1928.[3] The girls would become friends of Anne and Margot Frank.[4]

In 1933, the familiy left Berlin for the Netherlands. After a short stay in Zandvoort, they were registered in Amsterdam on 14 December 1933.[3]

Ilse Ledermann, her husband and their youngest daughter Sanne were arrested on 20 June 1943 and taken to Westerbork. From there they went to Auschwitz on 16 November 1943.
