Ru Stoppelman was a son of David Louis Stoppelman and Betsie van Zuiden. HIs father was a baker.[1] In school year 1941-1942, Ru was in class 1L2 of the Jewish Lyceum in Amsterdam.[2] In het diary Anne charcaterizes him as"a small, funny little boy from Almelo," who had joined the school later.[3] He came to Amsterdam from Almelo on 8 December 1941. On 30 July 1942 he went back to Almelo.[4] On 18 April 1942, he had Bar Mitsvah.[5]
On 2 and 3 October 1942, the Germans deployed all possible men plus the entire Amsterdam police force for the largest raid in Amsterdam and the province up to that time. The Stoppelman family was also rounded up. Ru Stoppelman, together with his parents and sister, were put on a transport from Westerbork to Auschwitz on 9 October 1942,[6] where he, his mother and sister were murdered immediately upon arrival on 12 October 1942.[7] Father David died three months later, on 31 January 1943.[8]
