Heinrich Jaulus
Heinrich Jaulus, teacher and rabbi, known to Edith and Otto Frank.
Heinrich Jaulus (1847-1927) was a teacher and rabbi. From 1868 to 1875 he was a member of the Breslau Seminar. From 1 April 1876 till 1 August 1925 he served as a Rabbi in Aachen.[1] Jaulus was a liberal Rabbi very involved in the movement of Wissenschaft des Judentums and for journals writing about at Judaism from this perspective. He also wrote a history of the Jews in Aachen, published in 1924. For the 25th anniversary of his service to the Jewish Community of Aachen, he received a finely-painted parchment tribute from the women's organization of the synagogue.[2]
He was also a teacher of religion at the Viktoriaschule.[3] Jaulus attended the wedding of his former pupil Edith Holländer in 1925 and gave a speech there.[4] He died on the same day as Abraham Holländer, Edith's father.
