Fredie Weisz

Fredie Weisz was friends with Hello Silberberg.

Fredie Weisz[1] was a Jewish boy from Germany and a friend of Hello Silberberg, Anne Frank's friend. The Weisz family came to Amsterdam in 1933.[2] His father Egon Weisz went back after a year and then left for the United States.[3]

After his parents' divorce, Fredie's mother married the hat maker Jozef Niwes.[4] Fredie and his mother attempted to flee to Switzerland, but were turned away at the Swiss border.[2]  They died in Auschwitz, probably both on 22 November 1942. Foster father Niwes and brother Siegbert Weisz survived.[5]

The Memorial Book of the Bundesarchiv gives the place and date of death as Sobibor, 16 July 1943.[6] This is due to confusion with a different Manfred Weisz.[7] On 26 November 2011 three 'Stolpersteine' were laid in Heitkampstrasse in Bunde, for Fredie, his mother and his brother.[8]

Source personal data (date and place of death unknown).[5] Addresses: Heitkampstrasse 11, Bunde, Germany);[8] Den Texstraat 48, Amsterdam (1937); Rijnstraat 164 II (1939).[5]
