Job Jansen Jr.

Job Jansen Jr. was a temporary employee of Otto Frank's company Opekta.

Job Jansen Jr. was a son of Job Jansen Sr. and Jetje Bremer. His mother worked as a demonstrator at Otto Frank's company Opekta, and his father also worked there occasionally. In the summers of 1934 and 1935 he worked at Opekta, in shipping and in the office. Because of the seasonal nature of the work, he was let go after the summer.[1]

In January 1936, he gave Isa Monas flowers for her birthday, for which she wrote him a letter of thanks.[2] In February 1936 he also gave Miep Santrouschitz (Miep Gies) flowers for her birthday. Miep also wrote him a thank-you letter.[3]

He and his younger brother Robert were on a list of people to be arrested during the Aktion CPN following the German invasion of the Soviet Union.[4] They were arrested on 16 September 1941 by police officers Holl and Crombeen and transferred via Camp Amersfoort to Neuengamme. Robert perished there on 18 August 1942.[5] Job had already been transferred to Dachau in July 1942, after which he was transferred to Auschwitz in December 1942.[6]

On 18 January 1945, as the Red Army approached, he was one of many, including Peter van Pels, sent on the death marches, the forced evacuations, mostly on foot, of prisoners that took place after the evacuation of concentration camps. After five days of walking and three days on the train, he arrived at the Mauthausen camp on 25 January 1945 with 5.714 other prisoners.[6] Unlike many others, Job Jansen survived and returned to Amsterdam. After the war, he was awarded the Resistance Memorial Cross.[4]
