Abraham Menist

Abraham Menist was a classmate of Margot Frank at the Jewish Lyceum.

Abraham (Ab) Menist was a son of Isaac Menist (1902-1943) and Marianna de Magtige (1904-1943).[1] Abraham's father worked as a merchant in tricotage, but after his marriage in 1923 he became a merchant in angling equipment.[2] Three years after Abraham, a daughter was born: Clara (1927-1943).[3]

In October 1931, the family moved to Zandvoort. During the German occupation, the family faced anti-Jewish measures. In February 1941, the first registrations of Jews in Zandvoort began, and from March 1942 they were ordered to leave Zandvoort and move to Amsterdam.[4] Abraham then entered class 4B2 of the Jewish Lyceum: the same class that Margot Frank was in.[5] He did not stay there for long, because on 29 June 1943 all four members of the family were rounded up and deported to Westerbork.[6] On 6 July 1943, they were transported to Sobibor extermination camp in a transport with 2,417 others, who were murdered in the gas chambers immediately upon arrival on 9 July 1943.[7]
