Hendrik Johan van Elburg was the owner of the Elhoek furniture factory at Prinsengracht 261, the building next door to Prinsengracht 263.

At the time of his marriage in 1924, he was an upholsterer.[1] On 22 November 1941, he reported to the Marnixstraat police station that unknown persons had stolen an unknown amount of money from the electricity meter the previous night. His profession at that time was furniture manufacturer.[2] On 8 April 1943, as one of Elhoek's partners, he reported that six hundred guilders and a typewriter had been stolen from the company by burglars the previous night.[3]
