Cornelis Staal

Cornelis Staal was a ferryman on the ferry about which Anne wrote in her diary.

Cornelis Staal was a ferryman on the ferry about which Anne wrote in her diary.[1] During the construction of Plan-Zuid, the municipality established a ferry service between Jozef Israëlskade and Amstelkade. When the bridge between Ferdinand Bolstraat and Scheldestraat came into use, this service ceased. Staal asked the municipality for permission to operate the ferry on his own account. On 3 March 1937, the Port Authority granted him a 'Certificate of Fitness' as skipper on a ferry. Staal operated the ferry until his death.[2]
