Fenna Gies
Fenna Gies was an older sister of Jan Gies.
Fenna Gies was an older sister of Jan Gies. She was born at four in the afternoon in the parental home at Rustenburgerstraat 191hs.[1] She married Jacob van der Molen on 19 January 1921. The marriage ended in divorce on 13 November 1923.[2] The Jewish Van der Molen remarried a Jewish woman in 1927. Both survived the war.[3]
The note 'lives with Henri J.M.L. Cats on Lekstraat 23 III 2' was added to Fenna's family card around 1935.[4] Later she lived at 120 Hunzestraat together with Henri Cats from 4 November 1940 to 4 May 1942 (Borgerhout 1902 – Auschwitz 1944).[5] The deregistration date was one day after the introduction of the Jewish Star. Henri Cats went into hiding on 13 July 1942 after being summoned.[6] He was arrested in January 1944 and died in Auschwitz on 6 March 1944.[7]
Around 10 June 1945, her brother Jan Gies, his wife Miep and Otto Frank moved in with her.[8] They left in November 1946. In September 1945, the war orphan Hanneli Goslar and her sister Gabi were also registered with Fenna. From September 1947, Fenna's sister Jopie and her young daughter Marijke, who had been in Japanese prison camps, lived with her in Hunzestraat for about ten months.[5]
