Vera Bythiner

Vera Bythiner was the first wife of Fritz Pfeffer.

Vera Bythiner was the first wife of Fritz Pfeffer and mother of their son Werner. She was born in Posen, Prussia (nowadays Poznań, Poland), as daughter of Joseph Bythiner and Irma Auerbach.[1] She had a brother, Klaus Franz Joachim Bythiner, born in 1916. The exact dates of the marriage and divorce of Vera and Fritz are unclear, but according to the Amsterdam population register theu got married on 30 April 1921 in Zoppot (now Sopot, Poland). She was only seventeen years old at the time and fifteen years younger than Fritz. Twelve years later, on 5 January 1933, they ot divorced.[1] Their son Werner Peter was born in 1927.

Vera's parents lived in Amsterdam since September 1936.[2] Vera arrived in November 1938 and lived with them at first. Later she moved to Roompotstraat. In 1941 and 1942, Vera Bythiner lived at two other addresses in Amsterdam, before she was officially signed out on 24 August 1942 for 'having left for Germany'.[1] She had been deported from Westerbork on 15 July 1942 to Auschwitz, where she was murdered on 30 September 1942.[3] Her parents ended up in Westerbork on 6 April 1943. From there they were deported on 4 May 1943 to death camp Sobibor, weher they wer killed immediately upon arrival on 7 May 1943.[4]

Werner, Vera's and Fritz's son, survived the war. In December 1938, he was sent to England in a Kindertransport and later emigrated tot the United States.
