    "content": "<p>Johanna Biegel was a &#39;gymnasium&#39; (grammar school)&nbsp;teacher&nbsp;<sup data-footnote-id=\"rhs4l\"><a href=\"#footnote-1\" id=\"footnote-marker-1-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[1]</a></sup>&nbsp;and secretary of the &lsquo;Nederlandse Dalton-Vereeniging&rsquo; (Dutch Dalton Association).<sup data-footnote-id=\"5upke\"><a href=\"#footnote-2\" id=\"footnote-marker-2-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[2]</a></sup>&nbsp;Miss Biegel taught biology at the Jewish Lyceum<sup data-footnote-id=\"aq7hy\"><a href=\"#footnote-3\" id=\"footnote-marker-3-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[3]</a></sup>&nbsp;after she was fired from the Barlaeus Gymnasium. Anne describes a run-in with her in the story &#39;A Biology Lesson&#39;.<sup data-footnote-id=\"f69fh\"><a href=\"#footnote-4\" id=\"footnote-marker-4-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[4]</a></sup> Anne also reflects her manner of speaking, explaining that Miss Biegel is &#39;from The Hague!&#39;.<sup data-footnote-id=\"v3p0j\"><a href=\"#footnote-5\" id=\"footnote-marker-5-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[5]</a></sup> &nbsp;She lived in The Hague only from <strong>March 1941</strong>.<sup data-footnote-id=\"rhs4l\"><a href=\"#footnote-1\" id=\"footnote-marker-1-2\" rel=\"footnote\">[1]</a></sup>&nbsp;In his &#39;De nacht der Girondijnen&#39; (Night of the Girondines), Jacques Presser referred to her as &#39;Miss Wolfson&#39;.
