"content": "<p>Bertus Hulsman was engaged to Bep Voskuijl for some time. Anne wrote in her diary on <strong>18 October 1942</strong> that Bertus was going to Germany for work.<sup data-footnote-id=\"eend4\"><a href=\"#footnote-1\" id=\"footnote-marker-1-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[1]</a></sup> He left for Berlin on <strong>21 October 1942</strong>, together with his brothers Arie and Theodorus and his wife Gertrud Hulsman-Herms. Bertus, Theodorus and Gertrud went to work at AEG.<sup data-footnote-id=\"w5has\"><a href=\"#footnote-2\" id=\"footnote-marker-2-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[2]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>When The Secret Annex was published, he received a flyer for the book,with a note saying that he appeared in it as "Dirk". He sent it back, adding that he had ordered the book. Bertus was on Java at the time.<sup data-footnote-id=\"huve8\"><a href=\"#footnote-3\" id=\"footnote-marker-3-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[3]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Bertus dated Bep.
