"content": "<p>Maurits (Mau) Goudeket was a board member of the Liberal Jewish Congregation (LJG) in Amsterdam in 1945.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>After the five-year HBS, he studied mathematics and physics. During his service in the anti-aircraft artillery, he attended an officer's training course.<sup data-footnote-id=\"0w9q9\"><a href=\"#footnote-1\" id=\"footnote-marker-1-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[1]</a></sup> After his studies, he was an assistant to a professor.<sup data-footnote-id=\"p1ur9\"><a href=\"#footnote-2\" id=\"footnote-marker-2-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[2]</a></sup> On <strong>23 October 1940</strong>, he signed a declaration that he had more than two Jewish grandparents.<sup data-footnote-id=\"ieeto\"><a href=\"#footnote-3\" id=\"footnote-marker-3-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[3]</a></sup> On <strong>29 January 1941</strong>, he received his doctorate for a chemistry dissertation.<sup data-footnote-id=\"088v9\"><a href=\"#footnote-4\" id=\"footnote-marker-4-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[4]</a></sup> Because of the anti-Jewish measures, he had to leave his job and went to work as a teacher at the Jewish Lyceum.<sup data-footnote-id=\"pq68j\"><a href=\"#footnote-5\" id=\"footnote-marker-5-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[5]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>During the occupation, he went into hiding, separated from his wife and newborn son, and became involved in the underground.<sup data-footnote-id=\"qlthz\"><a href=\"#footnote-6\" id=\"footnote-marker-6-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[6]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>The Nieuw Israelietisch Weekblad of <strong>9 November 1945</strong> published an advertisement in which the Association of Liberal Religious Jews called on former members of the former LJG to help re-establish the LJG. Those interested could report to Goudeket.<sup data-footnote-id=\"m0co7\"><a href=\"#footnote-7\" id=\"footnote-marker-7-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[7]</a></sup> On <strong>17 November 1945</strong> Otto Frank sent him a postcard in which he stated that he was interested in doing so.<sup data-footnote-id=\"b26so\"><a href=\"#footnote-8\" id=\"footnote-marker-8-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[8]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>In <strong>1947 </strong>Otto Frank sent a copy of The Secret Annex to Goudeket, who at that time was living and working in Curaçao. Goudeket sent him an extensive letter of thanks on <strong>8 August 1947</strong>. In it he also wrote how unfortunate it was that the new Amsterdam LJG had already fallen into disarray. "content_nl": "<p>Maurits (Mau) Goudeket was in 1945 bestuurslid van de Liberaal Joodse Gemeente (LJG) in Amsterdam. Hij ging na de vijfjarige HBS wis- en natuurkunde studeren. In zijn diensttijd bij de luchtdoelartillerie volgde hij een officiersopleiding.<sup data-footnote-id=\"0w9q9\"><a href=\"#footnote-1\" id=\"footnote-marker-1-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[1]</a></sup> Na zijn studie was hij assistent van een hoogleraar.<sup data-footnote-id=\"p1ur9\"><a href=\"#footnote-2\" id=\"footnote-marker-2-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[2]</a></sup> Op <strong>23 oktober 1940 </strong>ondertekende hij een verklaring dat hij meer dan twee Joodse grootouders had.<sup data-footnote-id=\"ieeto\"><a href=\"#footnote-3\" id=\"footnote-marker-3-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[3]</a></sup> Op <strong>29 januari 1941 </strong>promoveerde hij op een scheikundig proefschrift.<sup data-footnote-id=\"088v9\"><a href=\"#footnote-4\" id=\"footnote-marker-4-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[4]</a></sup> Door de anti-Joodse maatregelen moest hij zijn betrekking verlaten en ging werken als docent aan het Joods Lyceum.<sup data-footnote-id=\"pq68j\"><a href=\"#footnote-5\" id=\"footnote-marker-5-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[5]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Tijdens de bezetting dook hij apart van zijn vrouw en pasgeboren zoon onder, en raakte betrokken bij de illegaliteit.<sup data-footnote-id=\"qlthz\"><a href=\"#footnote-6\" id=\"footnote-marker-6-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[6]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Het <em>Nieuw Israelietisch Weekblad </em>van <strong>9 november 1945 </strong>plaatste een advertentie waarin het Verbond van liberaal-religieuze Joden oud-leden van de voormalige LJG opriep aan heroprichting mee te werken. Gegadigden konden zich melden bij Goudeket.<sup data-footnote-id=\"m0co7\"><a href=\"#footnote-7\" id=\"footnote-marker-7-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[7]</a></sup> Op <strong>17</strong> <strong>november 1945 </strong>stuurde Otto Frank hem een briefkaart waarin hij te kennen gaf dat te willen.<sup data-footnote-id=\"b26so\"><a href=\"#footnote-8\" id=\"footnote-marker-8-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[8]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>In <strong>1947 </strong>stuurde Otto Frank aan Goudeket, die dan op Curaçao woonde en werkte, een exemplaar van <em>Het Achterhuis. </em>Goudeket stuurde hem op <strong>8 augustus 1947 </strong>een uitvoerige bedankbrief. Hij schreef daar ook in hoe jammer het is dat de nieuwe Amsterdamse LJG alweer erg in het ongerede was geraakt.
