    "content": "<p>Samuel Showalter&nbsp;(<strong>1919-2004</strong>) was a co-pilot<sup data-footnote-id=\"nnt1m\"><a href=\"#footnote-1\" id=\"footnote-marker-1-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[1]</a></sup> of the bomber that crashed into the Spaardam neighbourhood on <strong>22 March 1944</strong>.<sup data-footnote-id=\"lu2r1\"><a href=\"#footnote-2\" id=\"footnote-marker-2-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[2]</a></sup> He ejected from the aircraft above Amsterdam-Noord, landed on a roof in Bremstraat and broke an ankle. A German soldier fired shots at him during his arrest.
