Werner Pfeffer's arrival in Harwich

Werner Pfeffer arrived in England with the first Kindertransport. The children's journey by train from Berlin to the Hook of Holland attracted attention from the Dutch press. Their arrival in Harwich was filmed.

He arrived in Harwich by night boat on 2 December 1938. He was under the supervision of the Refugee Children's Movement, bearing the registration number 15252.[1] His group travelled on the S.S. Prague which operated the regular ferry service between the Hook of Holland and Harwich. There is film footage and photographs of this first group of children on their arrival at the quay and on their first stay at Doverside Holiday Camp. Werner was expected at a relative's house in England and was able to travel straight through and was therefore probably not filmed or photographed at Doverside Holiday Camp.[2]
