On the night of 11 to 12 January 1943, unknown persons broke the cellar lock and made off with 24 cases of wine. Six hundred bottles in all, which, according to the owner, represented a total value of nine thousand guilders. Hotelier Friedrich Schiller reported the theft to the Marnixstraat police station on the afternoon of 12 January 1943. The 'atelier' was also notified, meaning that the criminal investigation department started looking for fingerprints and other traces at the scene.[1] It is not known to what extent the criminal investigation extended to the surrounding area.
