Familie Metz interned in Barneveld
Theodor Metz and his family were able to avoid deportation to concentration camps for a long time thanks to the Frederiks plan. To avoid arrest, they stayed in a Jewish Home in Barneveld - presumably "De Biezen" - from 27 February to 29 September 1943.
Theodor Metz and his family were part of the Frederiks plan in 1942, an initiative to place groups under special protection of the Ministry of the Interior.[1] Metz and his family were on Professor Jan van Dam's list. [2]Theodor Metz was also a German veteran of the First World War. As a result, they were safeguarded as much as possible from deportation to concentration camps. Nevertheless, to avoid arrest, they and other Jews on this list stayed in a Jewish Home in Barneveld - presumably "De Biezen" - from 27 February to 29 September 1943.
They were then housed in Barracks Hut 85 in Camp Westerbork until 4 September 1944, and from there they were deported to Theresienstadt concentration camp, where they were liberated on 3 May 1945.
