Politieke Recherche Afdeling (Political Detective Agency)

De Politieke Recherche Afdeling hield zich bezig met het opsporen van politieke delinquenten.

The Politieke Recherche Afdeling (PRA; Political Detective Agency ) was engaged in tracking down political offenders. In the first period just after liberation, this was done by the Politieke Opsporingsdienst (POD; Political Investigation Service). In March 1946 the PRA took over that responsibility.[1]

The Amsterdam PRA was located in the Hirsch building on Leidseplein. In July 1947, Johannes Kleiman wrote to the director mr. J.P. Engels informing him of the raid on the Prinsengracht 263 building on August 4, 1944, and asking him to take up the matter 'one more time'.[2] The PRA made an official report against warehouseman Willem van Maaren.[3]

On January 1, 1948, the PRA became part of the Metropolitan Police. During its existence, the service compiled 47,000 files in Amsterdam.[4]
