Jan Gies and military service

Jan Gies was exempt from military service.

Jan Gies passed the medical for military service in early 1924. He wanted to join the grenadiers himself, or else the engineers. The medical board adopted these preferences. However, it did not get that far because on 23 July 1924 he was granted permanent exemption due to having a brother who had served.[1] The entry in the lottery register of the Military Registry states that Jan Gies had completed six classes of primary education and three years of secondary education.
