    "content": "<p>Marianne (Jannie) Brilleslijper and her sister Rebekka witnessed Anne and Margot&nbsp;in the infirmary barracks&nbsp;in Bergen Belsen.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Jannie Brilleslijper was born at Nieuwe Kerkstraat 81.<sup data-footnote-id=\"j64ye\"><a href=\"#footnote-1\" id=\"footnote-marker-1-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[1]</a></sup>&nbsp;She grew up in a Jewish family that lived at various addresses in the centre of Amsterdam. In <strong>1936 </strong>they moved to the still new district of Bos en Lommer. Jannie&#39;s father was a fruit merchant and in her younger years she worked as a servant and as a dressmaker.<sup data-footnote-id=\"kusmf\"><a href=\"#footnote-2\" id=\"footnote-marker-2-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[2]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>On <strong>9 August 1939 </strong>she married Cornelis Teunis (Bob) Brandes in Amsterdam.<sup data-footnote-id=\"9sniy\"><a href=\"#footnote-3\" id=\"footnote-marker-3-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[3]</a></sup> His parents were against the marriage. Witnesses to the marriage were an uncle of Marianne and her sister Rebekka.<sup data-footnote-id=\"1g7ky\"><a href=\"#footnote-4\" id=\"footnote-marker-4-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[4]</a></sup> With her husband, Jannie was involved in socialist and communist groups.<sup data-footnote-id=\"3o2cf\"><a href=\"#footnote-5\" id=\"footnote-marker-5-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[5]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>On <strong>10 July 1944</strong>, she and her brother, sister and future brother-in-law were arrested during a raid on her home in Naarden. The party of nine was taken to the Police Headquarters in Amsterdam at ten minutes to six in the afternoon.&nbsp;The following day, Jannie&#39;s parents followed.<sup data-footnote-id=\"y1kla\"><a href=\"#footnote-6\" id=\"footnote-marker-6-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[6]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>She arrived in Westerbork at the end of <strong>July 1944</strong><sup data-footnote-id=\"aipsa\"><a href=\"#footnote-7\" id=\"footnote-marker-7-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[7]</a></sup>&nbsp;and from there, on <strong>3 September 1944</strong>, was deported to Auschwitz on the last transport from the Netherlands. Her sister, her parents, and the people from the Secret Annex were also on this transport. Like her sister, Jannie was a mixed marriage member of the &#39;Schutzh&auml;flinge&#39;, a group with a different status from the rest.<sup data-footnote-id=\"9ppc5\"><a href=\"#footnote-8\" id=\"footnote-marker-8-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[8]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Jannie and her sister left Auschwitz-Birkenau as part of mass transports of women who were more or less fit for work to Bergen-Belsen from late <strong>October 1944</strong>. Anne and Margot Frank were also among them. They were all part of a group of mostly Dutch women who spent a lot of time together. Jannie witnessed the illness, but not the death of Anne and Margot.<sup data-footnote-id=\"img3x\"><a href=\"#footnote-9\" id=\"footnote-marker-9-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[9]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>The Brilleslijper sisters were still in Bergen-Belsen when British troops liberated the camp on <strong>15 April 1945</strong>.<sup data-footnote-id=\"m6whv\"><a href=\"#footnote-10\" id=\"footnote-marker-10-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[10]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>In <strong>October 1945</strong>, Jannie stayed at a sanatorium in Bloemendaal. Through her sister she came into contact with Otto Frank, who was looking for people who knew more about the death of his children.<sup data-footnote-id=\"k8dwd\"><a href=\"#footnote-11\" id=\"footnote-marker-11-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[11]</a></sup> This was necessary in order to be able to obtain an official death certificate. On <strong>13 January 1946</strong>, she wrote and signed a note in which she made a statement to this effect.<sup data-footnote-id=\"t8os1\"><a href=\"#footnote-12\" id=\"footnote-marker-12-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[12]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>When Ernst Schnabel was working on his book about Anne Frank in <strong>1958</strong>, for unknown reasons he was unable to talk to Jannie. Het gezelschap van negen personen werd om tien voor zes &lsquo;s middags ingesloten op het Hoofdbureau van Politie in Amsterdam. De dag daarna volgden Jannies ouders.<sup data-footnote-id=\"n0138\"><a href=\"#footnote-6\" id=\"footnote-marker-6-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[6]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Ze kwam&nbsp;<strong>eind juli 1944 </strong>aan in Westerbork<sup data-footnote-id=\"aipsa\"><a href=\"#footnote-7\" id=\"footnote-marker-7-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[7]</a></sup>&nbsp;en werd vandaaruit op <strong>3 september 1944 </strong>met het laatste transport vanuit Nederland naar Auschwitz gedeporteerd. Bij dit transport zaten ook haar zus, haar ouders en de onderduikers uit het Achterhuis. Jannie behoorde&nbsp;net als haar zus als gemengd gehuwde tot de &lsquo;Schutzh&auml;flinge&rsquo;, een groep met een andere status dan de rest.<sup data-footnote-id=\"9ppc5\"><a href=\"#footnote-8\" id=\"footnote-marker-8-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[8]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Vanuit Auschwitz-Birkenau vertrokken Jannie en haar zus, als onderdeel van massale transporten van min of meer arbeidsgeschikte vrouwen, die vanaf <strong>eind oktober 1944 </strong>naar Bergen-Belsen reden. Ook Anne en Margot Frank zaten hierbij. Allen maakten ze deel uit van een groepje veelal Nederlandse vrouwen die veel met elkaar optrokken. Jannie was&nbsp;getuige van de ziekte, maar niet van de&nbsp;dood van Anne en Margot.<sup data-footnote-id=\"img3x\"><a href=\"#footnote-9\" id=\"footnote-marker-9-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[9]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>De zussen Brilleslijper waren nog in Bergen-Belsen toen Britse troepen het kamp op <strong>15 april 1945 </strong>bevrijdden.<sup data-footnote-id=\"m6whv\"><a href=\"#footnote-10\" id=\"footnote-marker-10-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[10]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>In <strong>oktober 1945 </strong>verbleef Jannie in een sanatorium in Bloemendaal. Door haar zus kwam ze in contact met Otto Frank, die zocht naar mensen die meer over het overlijden van zijn kinderen wisten.<sup data-footnote-id=\"k8dwd\"><a href=\"#footnote-11\" id=\"footnote-marker-11-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[11]</a></sup> Dat was nodig om tot een offici&euml;le overlijdensverklaring te komen. Op <strong>13 januari 1946 </strong>schreef en tekende&nbsp;ze een briefje waarin ze hierover een verklaring aflegde.<sup data-footnote-id=\"t8os1\"><a href=\"#footnote-12\" id=\"footnote-marker-12-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[12]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Toen Ernst Schnabel in <strong>1958 </strong>aan zijn boek over Anne Frank werkte, kon hij om onbekende redenen niet met Jannie spreken.     "content_en": "<p>Marianne (Jannie) Brilleslijper and her sister Rebekka witnessed Anne and Margot&nbsp;in the infirmary barracks&nbsp;in Bergen Belsen.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Jannie Brilleslijper was born at Nieuwe Kerkstraat 81.<sup data-footnote-id=\"j64ye\"><a href=\"#footnote-1\" id=\"footnote-marker-1-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[1]</a></sup>&nbsp;She grew up in a Jewish family that lived at various addresses in the centre of Amsterdam. In <strong>1936 </strong>they moved to the still new district of Bos en Lommer. Jannie&#39;s father was a fruit merchant and in her younger years she worked as a servant and as a dressmaker.<sup data-footnote-id=\"kusmf\"><a href=\"#footnote-2\" id=\"footnote-marker-2-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[2]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>On <strong>9 August 1939 </strong>she married Cornelis Teunis (Bob) Brandes in Amsterdam.<sup data-footnote-id=\"9sniy\"><a href=\"#footnote-3\" id=\"footnote-marker-3-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[3]</a></sup> His parents were against the marriage. Witnesses to the marriage were an uncle of Marianne and her sister Rebekka.<sup data-footnote-id=\"1g7ky\"><a href=\"#footnote-4\" id=\"footnote-marker-4-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[4]</a></sup> With her husband, Jannie was involved in socialist and communist groups.<sup data-footnote-id=\"3o2cf\"><a href=\"#footnote-5\" id=\"footnote-marker-5-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[5]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>On <strong>10 July 1944</strong>, she and her brother, sister and future brother-in-law were arrested during a raid on her home in Naarden. The party of nine was taken to the Police Headquarters in Amsterdam at ten minutes to six in the afternoon.&nbsp;The following day, Jannie&#39;s parents followed.<sup data-footnote-id=\"y1kla\"><a href=\"#footnote-6\" id=\"footnote-marker-6-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[6]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>She arrived in Westerbork at the end of <strong>July 1944</strong><sup data-footnote-id=\"aipsa\"><a href=\"#footnote-7\" id=\"footnote-marker-7-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[7]</a></sup>&nbsp;and from there, on <strong>3 September 1944</strong>, was deported to Auschwitz on the last transport from the Netherlands. Her sister, her parents, and the people from the Secret Annex were also on this transport. Like her sister, Jannie was a mixed marriage member of the &#39;Schutzh&auml;flinge&#39;, a group with a different status from the rest.<sup data-footnote-id=\"9ppc5\"><a href=\"#footnote-8\" id=\"footnote-marker-8-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[8]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Jannie and her sister left Auschwitz-Birkenau as part of mass transports of women who were more or less fit for work to Bergen-Belsen from late <strong>October 1944</strong>. Anne and Margot Frank were also among them. They were all part of a group of mostly Dutch women who spent a lot of time together. Jannie witnessed the illness, but not the death of Anne and Margot.<sup data-footnote-id=\"img3x\"><a href=\"#footnote-9\" id=\"footnote-marker-9-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[9]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>The Brilleslijper sisters were still in Bergen-Belsen when British troops liberated the camp on <strong>15 April 1945</strong>.<sup data-footnote-id=\"m6whv\"><a href=\"#footnote-10\" id=\"footnote-marker-10-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[10]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>In <strong>October 1945</strong>, Jannie stayed at a sanatorium in Bloemendaal. Through her sister she came into contact with Otto Frank, who was looking for people who knew more about the death of his children.<sup data-footnote-id=\"k8dwd\"><a href=\"#footnote-11\" id=\"footnote-marker-11-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[11]</a></sup> This was necessary in order to be able to obtain an official death certificate. On <strong>13 January 1946</strong>, she wrote and signed a note in which she made a statement to this effect.<sup data-footnote-id=\"t8os1\"><a href=\"#footnote-12\" id=\"footnote-marker-12-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[12]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>When Ernst Schnabel was working on his book about Anne Frank in <strong>1958</strong>, for unknown reasons he was unable to talk to Jannie.
