"content": "<p>Walter Holländer was the second son of Abraham Holländer and Rosa Holländer-Stern and a brother of Edith Frank-Holländer.<sup data-footnote-id=\"wbcq7\"><a href=\"#footnote-1\" id=\"footnote-marker-1-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[1]</a></sup> Walter Holländer worked in the companies of his father, Abraham. In <strong>May 1916</strong> he became the managing director of the car factory Heine & Holländer G.m.b.H. in Elze, near Hannover. On <strong>3 May 1933</strong> his powers were revoked.<sup data-footnote-id=\"vhnlh\"><a href=\"#footnote-2\" id=\"footnote-marker-2-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[2]</a></sup> </p>\r\n\r\n<p>After Otto Frank and his family had moved into their home on Merwedeplein, Walter and his brother Julius reunited their niece Margot with her parents.<sup data-footnote-id=\"ci7r1\"><a href=\"#footnote-3\" id=\"footnote-marker-3-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[3]</a></sup> Following 'Kristallnacht', Walter was sent to a concentration camp.<sup data-footnote-id=\"29oid\"><a href=\"#footnote-4\" id=\"footnote-marker-4-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[4]</a></sup> Otto Frank managed to get permission to get him sent to a Dutch refugee camp.<sup data-footnote-id=\"qydku\"><a href=\"#footnote-5\" id=\"footnote-marker-5-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[5]</a></sup> He arrived in the Netherlands via Nijmegen on <strong>26 December 1938</strong>, and travelled on to Rotterdam.<sup data-footnote-id=\"inifc\"><a href=\"#footnote-6\" id=\"footnote-marker-6-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[6]</a></sup> On <strong>27 December 1938</strong> the Population Register of Amsterdam listed him as a resident of Camp Zeeburg.<sup data-footnote-id=\"triz8\"><a href=\"#footnote-7\" id=\"footnote-marker-7-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[7]</a></sup> On <strong>17 December 1939</strong> he left for the United States with the <em>SS Volendam</em>.<sup data-footnote-id=\"1o8tw\"><a href=\"#footnote-8\" id=\"footnote-marker-8-1\" rel=\"footnote\">[8]</a></sup></p>\r\n\r\n<p>In the <strong>early 1960s </strong>he developed arthritis and diabetes. He also had lung problems and anxiety issues.
